4 All-Natural Products Your Family Must Try + 5 Holiday Cleaning Tips

5 Essential Holiday Cleaning Tips By Food Wine and Poopy Diapers

With the holidays quickly approaching, I must say I’ve become a bit of a cleaning fanatic. I love a sparkling clean home, which isn’t always easy to achieve with four adults, three kids, two dogs…and a partridge in a pear tree (all under one roof)! I’ve noticed that with the combo of colder weather, plus my harsh, chemical-laden products, things are really starting to take a toll on my my hands! They’re dry, cracking, and honestly a little painful. And that’s where Nixall comes in!

Nixall is a fabulous line of cleaning, and first aid products that are ALL-NATURAL! Their first aid spray takes care of the damage that’s already been done to my dry, cracked skin, and their all-natural cleaners help keep my home clean while being kind on my skin. 5 Essential Holiday Cleaning Tips

In our busy home, I will admit that I struggle at times with housekeeping. However, I’ve recently implemented some great routines that I’ve been able to stick with, that have helped me maintain a clean & orderly home! Yay!

1. Get up early every morning, shower, and get ready for the day.

5 Essential Holiday Cleaning Tips By Food Wine and Poopy Diapers

Are you asking yourself, “What in the world does this have to do with a clean house?!” Well, for me, everything! It’s all about starting my day with the right mindset. I find that when I feel good and I’m dressed well, and I look presentable enough to go anywhere or have company drop by at any time, I’m much MUCH more motivated than I am when I’ve stayed in my pajamas all day moping around the house. It sets the tone for a productive day, making me feel better about myself and ready to tackle anything.

2. Set a goal and put a time limit on it.

5 Essential Holiday Cleaning Tips By Food Wine and Poopy Diapers

The last thing you want to be doing is struggling with housework…all. day. long. That’s not fun for anyone! To keep myself in check, I set a goal with everything I want to get done that day, and I tell myself I’m not going to do any housework beyond 10am (other than cleaning up any messes that are made as we go about our day). Having a goal in mind prevents me from feeling overwhelmed, and also keeps me from running myself ragged. It makes me work hard and fast for a short amount of time, and frees up the rest of my day to enjoy with kids.

3. Make the beds every single morning.

5 Essential Holiday Cleaning Tips By Food Wine and Poopy Diapers

I started doing this a couple years ago, and maybe it wasn’t LIFE CHANGING, but….ok it was sort of life changing. Walking into a room with a bed that has been made just makes everything feel more put together. Even on the days where I can’t muster up the motivation to do much housework, I always make the beds. I’ve gotten it down to a science, and it only takes me about 30 seconds start to finish. Small price to pay for such a huge reward.

4. Baby wipes can do anything.

5 Essential Holiday Cleaning Tips By Food Wine and Poopy Diapers

I’ve mastered the technique of quick cleaning using baby wipes! I take just a few seconds here and there, grab a baby wipe, and quickly dust off furniture, clean dog hair off the couch, wipe down the bathroom vanities, spot clean the floor, and wipe off the toilet. For busy moms, wet wipes are a huge help! You can even attach a wet wipe to your Swiffer Duster for an instant disposable damp mop.

5. Good enough is good enough!

5 Essential Holiday Cleaning Tips By Food Wine and Poopy Diapers

My house will never look like a magazine…until my last child goes to college, that is, and then IT’S ON! But for now, we live here! I clean daily, but there’s random stuff strewn about because we have toddlers in the house. Ya know what? It’s clean, it smells good, it’s fairly picked up, and good enough is good enough! I wouldn’t be ashamed if company dropped by unannounced, and that’s a goal I’ve worked on for a while! You will drive yourself crazy striving for complete perfection (trust me, I’ve been there), so just let it go and enjoy your life!

The Look Cookers – A Children’s Book to Help Kids Overcome Fears

The Look Cookers by Jim Malloy
The Look Cookers by Jim Malloy
The Look Cookers by Jim Malloy

We LOVE books in our home, and I love children’s books that not only entertain, but also teach valuable lessons along the way. That’s why we loved The Look Cookers by Jim Malloy, a book that helps children deal with the common issue of shyness!

Matthew is a normal boy in every way but one. He’s a secret agent. But not just any kind of secret agent. Matthew is an eye spy!

The enemy: The Look Cookers! The mission: The first day of school! The goal: Make it to school without being ‘cooked’!

In fact, Matthew is shy. He does not like eye contact. In his lively imagination, he envisions that anyone who looks at him has special powers – they are the Look Cookers. And he has a name for each type of Look Cooker: Peek Seekers, Glance Dancers, Blink Drinkers, Stare Darers, Gawk Stalkers, Gape Scrapers and Sight Biters (the worst of the bunch!).

Join Matthew on his mission, experience the Look Cookers first hand and discover how he overcomes his fear of eye contact and succeeds in the end.

This is the first in a series of adventures penned by this new team of Jim Malloy and Hannah Stephey. It will inspire children ages 6-10 to overcome their fears – and delight children of all ages with its message and imaginative style.

Awards: Honorable Mention Children’s Literature CNW/FFWA Writing Competition.

Baby’s Brilliant – An Awesome New App For Toddlers!

Baby's Brilliant
Baby’s Brilliant App For Babies & Toddlers!

I recently had the pleasure of reviewing some amazing books and a “brilliant” new app for babies and toddlers…called Baby’s Brilliant!

Do you know parents who are looking for a new and unique way to entertain their babies? The Baby’s Brilliant App offers a variety of educational and entertaining videos and music for the parent on the go. Created by a busy mother of three, the App introduces babies to the world around them in an enriching and playful way, teaching them concepts like letters, numbers, colors and relaxing them at nap time and bedtime.

Baby's Brillaint

Baby’s Brilliant features:

Free app includes 3 free downloads.

Additional video and music downloads cost only 99 cents each.

Available for iPhone, iPad and iPod.

Categories include: Educational, Entertaining, Lullabies, Nature, Classical, Night Lights, Popular Children’s Songs, and more.

Some videos and songs are featured in Chinese, French, German and Spanish.

Create playlists so that videos and songs play automatically for young children in the order of your choice.

Parental controls prevent children from making in-app purchases.

Baby's Brilliant

My kids, ages 3 and 21 months, absolutely love Baby’s Brilliant! When I sit down with them at the iPad for some Baby’s Brilliant time, they give the app their undivided attention. They pay close attention to the little videos, they repeat words, colors, and I just know they’re learning great things! I can’t turn this app off without both boys asking for, “MORE?!” 🙂

I love Baby’s Brilliant because it’s very different from any other baby app I’ve seen. It is very calming, relaxing, and has a very peaceful vibe. When we’ve had a crazy day and the kids seem over-stimulated, Baby’s Brilliant seems to calm them, while still promoting learning at the same time.

Baby's Brilliant

As if the amazing app wasn’t enough, there are wonderful books that go along with the online stories! My son’s favorite book in the Baby’s Brilliant series is Nigel The Pug. They are just so cute!
