First Snow 2016…I Think I’m Ready For Christmas Now

First Snow - Food Wine & Poopy Diapers

Every year, in November and December, in the back of my mind I think….”Maybe it won’t snow this year.” As a native Iowan, I know this is wishful thinking, but in the “Indian Summers” that flow into Fall, I always find it difficult to envision my yard in a blanket of white.

I’m really a winter person. I love to wear my big sweaters & boots, sip hot beverages by the fire, and go ice fishing with my hunky hubby. However, this year, I just haven’t been ready. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve loved the extra green time that has lingered into December. I’ve been planning in my mind all the things I’m going to plant in the Spring, and all the cool projects I want to do in the yard (this is all taking place IN MY HEAD, mind you…I don’t usually achieve HALF of what I want to accomplish in the yard in Spring and Summer…and I have a BLACK thumb, so…there’s that)…

Today, all my Summer daydreams and Spring scheming went *POOF* in the dust. Today, we had our first snow.

And guess what… in a frost-filled instant, I was in love with winter all over again. We played, we shoveled, we threw snowballs, we laughed, and we built a snow man. Then, we came inside to warm up with the fireplace roaring, buried under downy fleece blankets. What’s not to love about that?

Happy Winter, everyone! Stay warm!
